Faculty Recruitment and Marketing Manager - AM00023

The University

The University of Derby is one of the UK’s most progressive institutions, as highlighted by our National Student Survey scores which rise year-on-year. We take great pride in sitting at the heart of a thriving city and region, with our approach and strengths aligned will the area’s illustrious past and exciting future.

Renowned as the heart of the Industrial Revolution, the area remains home to iconic British engineering brands and an ever-increasing number of global hi-tech giants. This is reflected in our engineering and technology drive, spear-headed by the 2013 opening of our Institute for Innovation in Sustainable Engineering.

To maximise the benefits of having such a rich pool of business on our door-step, we embed a ‘work ready’ ethos at the heart of our teaching to ensure our students leave us not just with a degree certificate, but with the first-hand skills and experience employers are looking for to make the smooth transition the world of work.

This is achieved not only through the standard routes of work experiences and placements, but our belief in ‘real-world learning’ which has seen us invest heavily in providing our students with facilities where they can benefit from hands-on learning and experience day-in, day-out. The examples are numerous and include a simulated hospital and working radiography suite, computer games suite, state of the art recording studio, law court and sports science gym.

Nowhere is this approach better epitomised than at our Buxton Campus where our students benefit from industry standard kitchens and a fine dining restaurant, a commercial spa and salon, and a fully equipped outdoor centre in the Peak District.

This is underpinned by our commitment to delivering education with the ‘personal touch’. For us this means that our students benefit from smaller class sizes, a personal tutor and excellent levels of support and guidance – providing a learning environment which allows them to maximise their potential and get the most out of their time at university.

Our contribution to the regional and wider economy is estimated to be over £240 million, highlighting a genuine, far-reaching impact and influence upon which we look to build further in the years to come. Furthermore, our reputation in health and education means we are well placed to support and enhance these essential services across the city and county. Likewise, with our championing of culture and sport, which includes our ownership of Derby Theatre and development of Team Derby.

Against this backdrop, the University of Derby is approaching the future with a vigour and sense of purpose in which ambitious learners will undoubtedly flourish.

The Derby campus is home to the majority of our programmes, and benefits from a continuous investment programme designed to provide modern and inspiring facilities for our staff and students. The campus is spread across a number of sites in the north west of the city.

In Buxton, our base is the historic Devonshire Dome which provides the perfect setting for our students in Tourism Management; Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts; Events Management; Spa Management; Sports Coaching. Development and Psychology; Sports Massage and Exercise Therapy; Outdoor, Adventure and Countryside Management.

As well as continuously improving our facilities, we take seriously our environmental responsibilities and over the past three years have invested over £14 million in energy efficiency schemes and improvements including photovoltaic cells and wind turbines to reduce carbon emissions and generate our own power.

Our People Vision

Here at Derby, our People Vision is based on the simple belief that if we can attract the right people, motivate and provide development in a supportive, friendly but performance focused environment, then they and the University will enjoy continuing success. We believe that this is the ‘ultimate people business’, great emphasis is placed upon engaging with our colleagues and improving our leadership to un-tap the discretionary effort from each employee, that will give us the competitive edge in our delivery to our students and customers.

We'll achieve this by putting our values at the heart of everything we do and by being a 'values-led' organisation. This means that we place as much value on how we do things as on what we do: applying our core values of Quality; Valuing People; Student Focus; Opportunity and Openness; and Challenge and Innovation. Continuing to do this has given Derby a clear and positive signature and a definite edge in the new HE market place.

Moreover, we're committed to providing all our staff excellent career and personal development opportunities, together with a total rewards philosophy that's based on providing competitive, affordable, flexible packages that recognise performance.
